Revised and enlarged edition of standard work on medals and medal ribbons, first published 1916. Captain Henry Taprell Dorling (1883-1963), who used the pen name, 'Taffrail,' served in the navy in both World Wars and wrote numerous works of fiction and non-fiction on nautical matters.
 
While British and Commonwealth medals, decorations and awards feature largely, those of many other countries are included. This reference book has a long history of regular updating from the first edition of 1916 with six new editions between 1919 and 1946, a new and enlarged edition 1956, new edition 1957, new edition with supplement 1960 with this second edition with enlarged supplement 1963 featuring more than 600 medals/orders. F Guille who assisted Dorling in the revisions over a number of years died in 1963 just prior issue of this edition
