In this compelling memoir, Pierre Van Paassen chronicles his extraordinary life as a foreign correspondent during the tumultuous interwar period and the dawn of World War II. Van Paassen presents a vivid firsthand account of the political and social upheavals that shaped the 20th century, from the rise of fascism to the plight of refugees. His incisive observations and profound reflections offer a powerful human perspective on historical events, making it an essential read for those interested in modern history and the role of journalism in documenting global change. The narrative captures the urgency and gravity of an era teetering on the brink, providing timeless insights into human resilience and conflict.
