ITS well known in the R.A.F. that flying torpedo bombers is the surest way to break a pilot's nerve. On almost every mission, it's a case of kill or be killed.
 
 
 
At the start of his torpedo run the pilot sees the ship, he is out to get and the ship sees him! When that run is over either ship or plane should be destroyed.
 
 
 
Torpedo bombers-and too many missions-nearly broke Peter Lane. For a while, he thought he d never fly again. Other pilots might say. "Oh, Pete's a bit too careful", but what they'd "Pete's a bit yellow!" It took flying with another "Sudden death" mob, the Martin Marauder sneak-raiders zipping in at zero feet over Europe's worst flak belts-to make young Pete realise his nerve hadn't gone.
