Aggression And War: Their Biological and Social Bases (1989) By Jo Grobel & Robert A Hinde

This book reviews current knowledge on aggression and war at levels of complexity ranging from the physiological, through that of individual aggression, to group conflict and international war. It is especially concerned with two beliefs which, though erroneous, are commonly held in our society. The first is that, because aggressive behaviour is in some sense part of human nature, humans inevitably behave aggressively. The second is that international war is closely related to, and even a direct consequence of, the aggressiveness of individuals. These beliefs both inculcate an unnecessary pessimism about the human condition, and provide an inadequate basis for improving it
